> PRINT READY FILES

This guide has some very important steps to take to ensure your files are printed correctly. Please take the time to ensure you follow the steps below.

If you have any questions or are unsure how to complete any steps please call, we are more than happy to help.

Always run through our specifications to make sure you will get your job back as quickly os possible.

Important Specifications:

  • 3mm bleed outside trim edge
  • All Borders, logos, text and imported information are set 3mm inside trim edge
  • Document sized to finished size
    (including bleed) and crop marks
  • Fonts & Images are embedded or outlined
  • All scans are correct size and resolution

Resolution

  • Line Screen is 175 Ipi
  • All pixel based files and scans should
  • To be be exactly 300 dpi.
Any less and you will see a lower
quality pixelation as a result. Any more and the file will be bigger than required, harder to email, take longer to process, without any additional benefit for your finished job.

Colours

  • Always use CMYK, never use RGB, PMS/Spot or any other colour space.
  • Files supplied in RGB or PMS will print differently to what you are expecting.

Helpful hint: Never use a 4 colour black, but you can add 40% Cyan and/or Magenta to 100% Black for a richer finish.

Design

  • Borders should be at least 3mm
wide to maintain a consistent all
    round finish.
  • Any lines must be at least .25 any thinner and it may not print.
  • All text, logos and important infor mation should be kept at least 3mm inside the edge of the document.
  • Do not lock or hide anything, nor
    separate the colours.
  • All fonts must be embedded or
    outlined.
  • Embed any placed or imported
image to create one complete file - linked files will cause problems!

Bleed

  • 3mm External bleed.
  • 3mm Internal bleed - as explained above.

Placement

Each side of document should be centred in a canvas or document sized exactly to the finished size with bleed. For example, add 3 mm bleed to all 4 sides of a 90mm x 55mm business card, giving a finished size for your document of 96mmx61 mm.

In vector based programs (such as
Illustrator and Freehand) make sure all elements, especially locked and masked ones, outside this document are deleted.

Crop Marks

In illustrator: Do not use the 'Object>Crop Make' command. Instead use 'Filter>Create>Trim Marks/Crop Marks'.

Trapping

Not requited we auto traps all vector files.

Layers/Transparencies

Make sure all files are flattened
before saving or exporting. Layers
and transparencies may not print
accurately if not flattened.

Layout

Use separate individual files for each
side of the job. For example, 2 sides
= 1 files: 1 up front and 1 up back.

Orientation

Always place the head to the top of
the file.

Supply a colour proof/mock up

File Formats

  • Use eps for vector-based files, (ie: Illustrator, Freehand).
  • No jpeg encoding.
  • Use. tiff for raster-based files, (ie: photoshop)
  • Acrobat .pdf is out prefered format: Ensure that you flatten all layers, transparencies and convert all text to outlines before saving as pdf. If using distiller to pdf please use settings "press" or "print" never use "screen" or "web" settings.

We always recommend you fax us an order when sending files via email. Our fax number is 03 5979 7944 If a problem occurs with receipt of your file we can contact you immediately.
